Hailing from the North East of Scotland, Lewis chose to follow in his Grandfather’s footsteps by studying chemistry, completing his undergraduate Master’s degree at the University of Strathclyde in 2012. From 2012 to 2016 he went on to obtain his PhD at Strathclyde with Eva researching alkali metal ferrate complexes and their role in C-H and C-F activation of fluoroarenes. Lewis spent two years as a postdoc in Prof. Richard Layfield’s group at the Universities of Manchester and Sussex researching lanthanide single-molecule magnets before returning to work with Eva in late 2019 at the University of Bern where he is currently investigating first row transition metal cooperative bimetallic complexes. Besides an affinity for iron, Lewis enjoys skiing, weightlifting, coffee, cooking and DJing.
